When you work with X-ray equipment in your practice, radiation safety is an absolute priority. An important part of this is using the right shielding. Consider, for example, a solid wall with lead or a solid stone wall-these provide excellent protection against X-rays.
But did you know that a wall of plasterboard or a glass door will still let through up to 25% of radiation? And that a solid 40 mm wooden door offers hardly any protection?
In small OPG rooms, where walls are sometimes constructed of lighter materials, radiation outside the room can still be quite high. It is therefore important not only to use the right shielding, but also to have a thorough risk analysis carried out. The risk analysis will show whether the shielding within your practice is sufficient, or whether you need to take additional measures.
Our continuing education helps you further
During our continuing training you will learn all about dose-saving measures, such as choosing the right shielding materials and interpreting transmission and attenuation values. You will get practical tips to make your workplace safer, where we also cover the legal requirements.
