This online continuing education course on radiation protection is designed for dentists who hold a diploma in TMS Dentistry Basic (formerly 5A/M). After attending this course, you will be fully up-to-date again regarding modern radiation hygiene and current regulations. And you will fulfil the requirement of the 5-yearly continuing education in the field of radiation protection, as described in the KNMT guideline on dental radiology. You complete this refresher training with a certificate.

The learning objectives in this refresher course are achieved in an enjoyable way through the alternating use of media such as text, images, videos and explainers. This is an online refresher course that does not get bored easily and provides a thorough refresher of knowledge. Moreover, you do not have to leave your practice or home to follow this refresher course and can do so at any time of the day. After payment, you keep access to the course content for one year*.
The learning objectives of the course
The dentist can:
- Understand the nature of X-rays and how they are produced;
- Name the influence of adjusting the various setting parameters;
- Perform a simple shielding calculation;
- Name the relevant parameters for dosimetry and image quality within the relevant medical application(s);
- Using radiobiology to understand the background of dose limits and reference levels;
- To name factors that influence the biological effect of X-rays;
- Appoint the formal duties of a TMS and how it can be fulfilled in an organisation;
- Review department protocols and other radiation-relevant matters against the Nuclear Energy Act licence and current laws and regulations.
- Identify any necessary changes to the RI&E and submit this to the SBD;
- Describe and apply ALARA measures for patient and employee within the practice;
