This is what dentists learn about in continuing education:
The nature of X-ray
In this section, we look at how matter is built and how X-rays are actually generated. All kinds of parameters are involved, and we explain the effects of these parameters on an image. We discuss what interacts with matter and what you can do to shield against X-rays.
The biological effects of
X-ray
By the end of this module, you will be able de structure and functions of the cell, and understand the basics of radiobiology. We also discuss the background of dose limits and reference levels and what factors influence biological effects. And, of course, how these apply in dental radiology.
Legislation radiation protection
In this module, we cover national and international guidelines in radiation protection. We describe what the Nuclear Energy Act and Radiation Protection Basic Safety Standards Decree mean and how a radiation protection organisation is structured. And when should you actually apply for registration or a licence? We discuss practice guidelines and which field standards apply. Applied to oral care practice.
Protective measures
In it, we set out what ALARA actually is and how it can be applied in practice. The square law, filtering, personal protective equipment and everything that affects the dose, both for patients and also for employees. Practice-oriented and directly applicable.
